CAREER BREAK: VOLUNTEER ON A CONSERVATION PROJECT IN MALAWI

Construction Assistant - Lilongwe Wildlife Centre

JOURNEY: Malawi
PURPOSE: Renovate wildlife enclosures
DURATION: Min. 2 weeks
Provide an extra pair of hands to provide much-needed help within the Wildlife Centre.

Lilongwe currently has a small zoo facility, but due to a lack of resources the animals are neither well fed nor cared for and educational value is very limited.  It is only for a small number of well wishers that the animals remain fed.   Enclosures remain dirty, bare and in a state disrepair.  A new and modern approach to animal welfare and wildlife education is now needed in Malawi and you can help make this a reality.

Working together with the Malawi Wildlife Centre, this Project aims to develop a self-sustaining, ‘People and Wildlife’ wild animal rescue and education centre that promotes an understanding of animal welfare, wildlife conservation, environmental protection and humanitarian issues and actively engages in wildlife release and conservation programmes. It will also provide a sanctuary home for the animals from the  zoo when it closes.

COST:

From £250 + £400 donation to the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre

Includes all food, accommodation, airport transfers, pre-departure training, in-country support.

The donation to the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre can be fundraised and will be used to support the Malawi Wildlife Centre.
