The Amazon Rainforest is known for its vast biodiversity with over 2000 species of plants, more than 80 species of mammals and around 650 types of birds. Among these species are many endangered creatures. It has become more and more fashionable for people to take these creatures as pets, or for them to be used as performing circus animals. Within Latin America the trade in these animals is rife and on western markets they can be sold for thousands of pounds.
Volunteers are urgently needed to improve the lives of these beautiful creatures and to help to combat this illegal trade, the third biggest smuggling operation in the world, surpassed only by the arms and drugs trade.
QUEST are working with a Bolivian community foundation that has established the only sanctuary of its kind in the whole of Bolivia. The sanctuary strives to enhance the animals’ quality of life and reintroduce them back into the wild where possible.
This is an immensely valuable project a world away from anything you've ever seen before.
